As the home elevator market continues to grow, driven by an aging population and a lower cost of installation, there is a greater need for home elevator safety education. Home elevators are safe if they are installed correctly, used correctly and adhere to recommended safety standards. Yet many home elevator owners are not aware of proper elevator installation standards or steps they can take to ensure their home elevators are installed safely.

This website, www.homesafecampaign.com, is the focal point of the Campaign. Materials provided on this website include guides and resources to help people evaluate the safety of their home elevators, home elevator safety tips and tools, as well as materials to answer the most frequently asked questions about home elevator safety.

Who are the organizations behind homeSAFE?
Safety is an industry-wide concern. In addition, the design, production and installation of home elevator products is a comprehensive effort. The component parts of an installed elevator come from a range of sources and are historically sold to homeowners through wholesalers and independently installed. Because of this, the campaign has engaged individuals who are part of the production, sales and installation process with educational materials, web resources and outreach tools to keep the end users of all of our products as safe as possible. The homeSAFE Campaign brings together industry leaders to share their experience and resources.

Our homeSAFE partners include: the Association of Members of the Accessibility Equipment Industry (AEMA), National Association of Elevator Contractors (NAEC), National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities International (NAESA) and ThyssenKrupp Access Corp.

Whom does the homeSAFE Campaign target?
The homeSAFE Campaign primarily targets home elevator owners. However, given the design, production and installation of home elevator products is a comprehensive effort, the campaign is also focused on educating home elevator industry partners (such as dealers, distributors, installers, inspectors, maintenance and service providers, trade associations and government organizations) about proper installation and safety standards.

Why launch the homeSAFE Campaign?
As the home elevator market continues to grow, driven by an aging population and a lower cost of installation, there is a greater need for home elevator safety education. Home elevators are safe if they are installed correctly, used correctly and adhere to recommended safety standards. Yet many home elevator owners are not aware of proper home elevator installation standards or steps they can take to ensure their home elevators are installed safely. As industry leaders, we have a responsibility to educate them. We believe that all home elevator owners should be able to clearly understand how to operate and maintain their home elevators and should feel confident in their safety. Through the materials on our homeSAFE website, we hope homeowners and those involved in the installation process alike will learn more about enhancing the safety of their home elevator.

How are the homeSAFE Campaign partners educating the public about home elevator safety?
In conjunction with the launch of www.homesafecampaign.com, the campaign’s committed partners have also provided members of the home elevator production, sales and installation process with materials, web resources and outreach tools to help keep home elevator owners and users as safe as possible.

How can individuals get involved?
Individuals can visit the homeSAFE Campaign website (www.homesafecampaign.com) to download campaign information sheets for easy sharing with family, friends and leaders in your community. We encourage everyone to spread the word about proper home elevator safety and installation practices.
