National Elevator Escalator Safety Awareness Week (Safety Week) is celebrated annually the second full week of November
Purpose
This is a promotion of public safety awareness for the industry's equipment. Everyone is invited to make this special week a huge success in cities throughout the U.S. and Canada. Safety Week provides a focal point for the industry, on a local and national level, to join together as individuals, companies and organizations and spread the word about public safety in the elevator industry. At the same time, Safety Week is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions made by the industry to the quality of life. Volunteers reach millions of riders with important safety messages in many locations during this celebration
Plan Your Customized Safety Week Event
The Foundation has developed a Free Safety Week Planning Guide that provides information on organizing events and printable materials to use in the effort. Included - a variety of pre-selected items: proclamations; media tools and reproducible materials (US and Canadian sets) such as - news releases for local media, safety coloring sheets for children and safety handouts for adult riders.
Many of the pieces described above may be customized with company or organization logos. Past organizers recommend a two month or more planning period.
Volunteer

- Give an A Safe Ride Presentation
- Write a Proclamation Request Letter to your Governor
- Set up or Man an informational display booth in a Mall or Public Building
- Include a Safety Week Story in an In-house publication
Safety Week Kit
The kit was developed to aid volunteer organizations celebrate National Week. It may be purchased by any interested group or individual. The items that included in the kit are a Planning Guide, an EESF or EESFC table cloth, an EESF or EESFC display banner, 500 EESF or EESFC brochures, 500 General Safety brochures, a complete Safe-T Rider program with video (1 of 1,000), a complete A Safe Ride program with video (1 of 1,000), and the rental of a Safe-T Rider costume.
Governors' and Mayors' Proclamations
Each year, the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation requests every state's governor and many mayors sign a proclamation declaring the 2nd week of November as National Elevator Escalator Safety Awareness Week. The EESF requests this proclamation in recognition of the contributions the elevator industry has made to the public safety and lifestyle of this community, as well as to help raise awareness about elevator and escalator safety.
